Autumn Term Literacy

During Literacy we will look at the traditional tale of 'The Ugly Duckling' and write our own versions of this story.  We will structure our writing with a clear beginning, middle and end.  We will write our own acrostic poems and senses poems about Autumn. 

We will practise saying the alphabet and learn the five vowels.  We will be able to sort a group of letters into alphabetical order.  We will find out about nouns and verbs.

P3 will have lots of fun in their phonics lessons by playing a variety of games and activities to improve their spelling. 

Autumn Term Numeracy

We will be investigating number stories to 20 using numicon and will look for patterns in number.  We will broaden our range of mathematical vocabulary for addition and subtraction and solve simple number problems.  We will begin to try and explain our thinking and working out.

During mental maths sessions we will take part in a variety of mental maths games in class and on the IWB to improve our confidence and ability in working with number.  We will learn doubles facts and be able to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. 

We will learn about months, seasons and special days in the year.  We will learn to tell the time using an analogue clock and investigate the properties of 2d and 3d shape.

Autumn Term World Around Us

Our topic this term is TICK TOCK.  We will make our own personal timelines and think about how we've changed since we were babies and toddlers.  We will talk about what we would like to be when we grow up!

We will find out what hospitals were like in Victorian times and how Florence Nightingale made important new changes that improved the care of patients in hospital.  We will make our own Florence Nightingale lamps.

We will learn about the lifecycle of insects and frogs and make life-cycle wheels and our own non-fiction books!

We will be investigating changes of state using chocolate and ice cubes.
